Why are the Pleiades called the Seven Sisters — when we can only see six?

In our times only six stars of the Pleiades cluster are visible to the naked eye. Which is bc Atlas and Pleione are so close that they appear as one.

So, how came the constellation to its name Seven Sisters? Science has the theory this story must be WAY older:
